The hottest toys of 2026 aren’t a mystery this year, because the two lists that matter most both dropped in September. Amazon published its Top 100+ Toys list on September 9, and The Toy Insider released its Hot 20 on September 24. I went through both and pulled out the toys that actually deserve a spot on your list.
If you only buy one thing from this post, pick from the seven toys that made both lists. Two separate teams of toy people landing on the same toy is the closest thing to a sure bet you’ll get in October.
The one I’d think twice about is the Pokémon 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box. More on that below.
At my house, the Crunchinator is the pick for my 8-year-old, the PAW Patrol Megasaurus for my 4-year-old, and Tickle Me Elmo for my 1-year-old. All three made both lists.

Most “hottest toys” posts are last year’s list with a new date on top. So here’s exactly where this one came from:
Amazon’s full list has 100+ toys, so when I say a toy is “on both lists” I mean it’s on one of The Toy Insider’s three headline lists and featured in Amazon’s announcement. Every toy below is on at least one, and I note which.
Next, I opened every Amazon listing on October 7 and kept only toys that were in stock, sold new, and sold by Amazon or the brand itself. No mystery third-party sellers, no open-box deals dressed up as a sale.
Both picks here run about $40 to $45. Check the current price on Amazon before you buy.

On both lists. This is the 18-inch version of the Elmo a lot of us grew up with, and it’s on the Hot 20 and in Amazon’s toy list announcement. Amazon lists it for 18 months and up. It’s big, so it’s more of a “wow, look at that” gift than a crib buddy.
On the Toy Insider Hot 20. Little People meets Super Mario, which means the toddler plays and the Mario-loving parent secretly enjoys it too. The manufacturer age is 18 months and up, and it already has a couple hundred reviews.
This is the most crowded age group on both lists. Prices run from about $25 to $160, with most landing in the $45 to $80 range.

On both lists, and an Amazon exclusive. A modular dollhouse with figures and a car. If you want one gift that’ll still get played with in March, this is the one I’d lean toward.
On both lists. An interactive plush tiger cub that comes with a bottle and a leash. It’s the “pet” gift for the kid who keeps asking for a real one.
On both lists. A big rescue vehicle with an inflatable dino, tied to the PAW Patrol Dino Movie. If your preschooler is in a PAW Patrol phase, this is the one they’ll have seen.
On the Toy Insider Hot 20. The splurge of the preschool group. It stands 28 inches tall, so measure your playroom (and your hiding spot) before it shows up.
On the Toy Insider Hot 20. The budget pick for this age. Play-Doh kitchens never really go out of style, and this one leans into the pretend-cooking sounds.
Squishy, slimy and anything KPop Demon Hunters. That’s 2026 in a sentence. Expect to spend about $20 to $50 here.

On both lists. Five scented slimes and more than 50 add-ins. The Toy Insider called out the squishy toy craze as one of the biggest trends of the year, and this is the slime version of it. Maybe make it a kitchen-table gift.
On the Toy Insider Hot 20. The singing fashion dolls are the KPop Demon Hunters toy to get. Zoey is sold separately if you’ve got a kid who won’t settle for just one. Buy the Mattel version from Amazon directly and skip the lookalikes (more on that below).
On the Toy Insider Hot 20. An egg that “hatches” an interactive megalodon. Unboxing is half the fun at this age, and this one stretches it out.
This group swings from about $20 to $130, so there’s something here for a stocking and something for under the tree.

On both lists. An interactive Pikachu that moves and reacts, landing right on Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. If you’ve got a Pokémon kid and the card boxes are sold out, this is the one I’d go for instead.
On Amazon’s list and The Toy Insider’s STEM 10. A hands-on engineering challenge from Mark Rober, who a lot of kids already know from YouTube. It’s one of the cheaper “both lists” picks, too.
On the Toy Insider Hot 20. Part of LEGO’s new SMART Play line. It’s one of the priciest toys in this post, so save it for the kid who’s already deep into Star Wars.
On the Toy Insider Hot 20. A tiny collectible record player that actually plays music. It’s a fun collectible for tweens, and it won’t blow your budget.
These two are in Amazon’s announcement but not The Toy Insider’s three headline lists. Both run about $60 to $70. Double-check the age on the box for your kid.

Magna-Tiles are one of those toys kids come back to for years. If yours already have a set, this one adds on easily.
LEGO’s Pokémon sets are new this year, and this one’s on Amazon’s list. We covered the first LEGO Pokémon set in our holiday gift guide’s hottest toys section too.
Stocking stuffers and class party gifts, all under twenty dollars when I checked.

It’s on both lists, and every Pokémon kid wants it. But when I checked on October 7, Amazon’s listing was invitation-only (you click “Request invite” and hope), marked final sale with no returns, and priced well above the $89.99 Amazon listed when it announced its toy list. ABC News’ roundup also showed it at Walmart for $159.95.
If you can get an invite at a normal price, great. If not, I’d skip the scalper markup and get the Pikachu Puppetronic or a regular booster pack instead.
Amazon’s list includes a Tonies Cuddle Minnie Mouse audio plush. We’re a Yoto family, and if you’re shopping for a screen-free audio player, the Yoto Player (3rd Gen) is the one to look at right now (the Mini was showing unavailable on Amazon when I checked). We broke down the differences in our Yoto vs Toniebox comparison.

We’ve had our Yoto Mini since my 8-year-old was 4, and it’s still in constant use. The kids play a lot of PAW Patrol and educational cards, my older son is starting to get into Marvel novels and the Hardy Boys series, and Raffi songs and Christmas music are what we put on for my 1-year-old.

The toys on both lists are the ones most likely to sell out, so I wouldn’t wait on those. For everything else, you’ve got a little more room to shop around, since toy prices tend to bounce up and down all season. We’ll post the best toy price drops in the Simply Picks app and our Facebook group as we find them.
There’s no single official answer, but the toys featured by both Amazon and The Toy Insider are the safest bets: Tickle Me Elmo Giggle Max, the Cheery Lane House, furReal Gabby, the PAW Patrol Megasaurus, GUI GUI Mega Slime Haul, the Pikachu Puppetronic and the Crunchinator. The Pokémon 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box is on both too, but it’s the hardest to get at a fair price.
Squishy and slime toys, mystery collectibles, Pokémon (it’s the 30th anniversary), and anything KPop Demon Hunters. The Toy Insider also called out Spider-Man and Toy Story toys as big this year.
It’s Amazon’s yearly holiday toy list, picked by its own toy team. The 2026 version came out September 9 and is grouped by themes like toys under $15, Amazon exclusives, collectibles and screen-free picks.
Amazon uses invitations for high-demand items with limited stock. You request one on the product page and Amazon picks who gets to buy it. It doesn’t guarantee you’ll get one.
It varies, but the high-demand ones can get scarce as the holidays get closer. If a toy is on both lists and your kid really wants it, buying early is the safer move.
If you’re overwhelmed, start with the seven toys that made both lists and match one to your kid’s age. That alone takes care of most wish lists. For everyone else on your list, our 2026 Holiday Gift Guide has 262 more ideas, and you can shop our Kids & Hottest Toys list on Amazon in one place.
Prices and availability were checked October 7, 2026, and toy prices move a lot this time of year. Check the current price on Amazon before you buy.
