Years ago, my good friend had a baby. She was the first person “my age” to have one. My mom suggested I buy her something to be included with the Baby Shower Gift. So many get caught up with the baby that we forget about the mama – whose world is about to get rocked. “A nice pair of slippers or a new nightgown” was my mom’s thoughtful suggestion. Here are a few more:
Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. If new mom and dad are coffee drinkers, you have a lot of options with a wide range on price. A new Keurig (this one is an awesome price at Target) ? A cold brew maker? Gift cards to Starbucks? As a fan of coffee and a mama myself, I would LOVE this gift. If someone gave me a box of my favorite blend and a coffeecup with “mom” on it, I would have cried like a baby. Which is appropriate, considering….
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your eating preferences), the days of neighbors bringing over food to celebrate a birth appear to be short-lived. Let Hello Fresh step in for you. This is such an ideal gift, in my opinion. Hello Fresh allows you to give the gift of a homecooked meal yet still allows the new parents to select which meals and ingredients they desire. A $65 gift card feeds 2 people 3 meals a week. Pro Tip: they offer “oven ready” meals that require no prepping or clean-up. Just pop the oven-ready dish in the oven and done. What exhausted new mom wouldn’t love that!?!

Back to my mom’s suggestion of pj’s and slippers, slippers can be a bit tricky if you do not know the correct size (and feet can definitely swell before and after giving birth). A new nursing robe and pajama set would be well received. This 3 piece set is a great option that includes a short robe and tank top/pants pajamas. Another, similar idea, is a 3-in-1 Labor/Delivery/Nursing Hospital Gown. This gown gets fantastic reviews and offers many different patterns to choose from.

We all know someone who sells Essential Oils, correct? If not, allow me to introduce you to my favorite brand, Plant Therapy. Their oils are fantastic and they offer Free Shipping. Babies are wonderful but moms-to-be and new moms will still want to relax when they get a chance. Aromatherapy to the rescue! A pretty diffuser like this and some Kidsafe Lavender or Nighty-Night oils would be lovely. *These are gifts for Mom though. Essential oils should not be diffused by infants under 6 months old.*
Okay, time for a splurge item. Hear me out though. A Baby Bullet, to make homemade and delicious baby food, is about $60. I personally had it and loved making my daughter’s food. I credit her healthy palate partially to it. For $200 more, you can gift the new mom a lifetime of healthy food prep with a Vitamix – for her and baby. Right now, QVC has a steal on them. And the colors? Gorgeous! Pink in honor of a baby girl, blue for a boy, or even this beautiful pistachio neutral color.
I would seriously consider giving birth again just to get a Vitamix.
The new mama may understandably not be feeling like her best self after giving birth. Any one of the beauty items featured in our Top Selling Amazon Beauty Buys will help cheer her up. All receive high reviews and are budget-friendly.
Finally, let’s talk diaper bags. They CAN be cute and functional. Gifting a new mom with a stylish bag (added bonus, sneak in a few things for her to find later…. Lip gloss, Starbuck’s gift card, hand lotion, nail polish) will have her feeling like a million bucks. This one gets great reviews on Amazon.

Or, you can introduce her to the world of Lug bags. These bags are light-weight and fantastic. Women tend to fall in love with them, in fact, they even have their own followers deemed the “LugNuts”. I actually have five of my own. And, two of my mom friends now own multiples as well. They are light weight, versatile and fabulous. Here is an example:

Having a baby changes a woman into a mom. But let’s not forget that she is still a woman too. And we are all different. Some new moms do not want to leave their baby’s side for weeks or months (or in my case years…kidding…kinda). Others will be begging to get out of the house as soon as they can. Remember, the best thing we can give new moms is nonjudgmental understanding and patience and some time to gather her bearings. But, maybe something cute to wear during that precious time or an item to make the transition easier wouldn’t hurt!
