The BEV cocktail maker does just that: it makes a great cocktail! Think of it as a jukebox for mixed drinks. The great thing about this “bartender” is that, once you hook up your favorite liquors and one bottle of water, all you have to do is make sure you have all your favorite cocktail mixer pods on hand and push the button! Easy as pie! And it is also very pretty to look at… especially in “party mode” when the LED lights illuminate the bottles that it is drawing from.
I would say there are 2 kinds of people who would enjoy this machine. The first kind is the one that doesn’t drink a cocktail very often, but loves the perfect cocktail without having to get all the fixings to create the perfect drink.
The second kind of people that this would be great for is people that love entertaining! We have hosted many a bar night at our house and this machine is a great entertainer in itself! Everyone can choose their favorite cocktail pod from the many, many options we have. You can make these cocktails as easy or complicated as you wish. Choose all your favorite cocktails and make them in seconds! A few of my favorites are a lemon drop, Grinch Appletini and a whiskey sour. Yum!
This is the genius part: you buy whatever cocktail mixes you desire and pop them into you cocktail maker. They have lots and they still come up with more cute cocktail ideas. They have themed varieties for the holidays or you can buy pods that use your preferred liquor, for example only cocktail pods made with whiskey, or only vodka, etc.
When you pop the cocktail pod in the machine, BEV scans the barcode and immediately knows what to make and what liquor to pull into the cocktail. It even has a light on the top left that alerts you if you should put your shaker under the machine spout (instead of a glass), when you’re supposed to shake it up with ice. Smart cookie, this bartender of mine.
They have over 40 different cocktails already! We may have a few of those 40…
The first reason why we chose the B&D machine over the Bartesian brand name is because with the BEV you can connect up to 5 different liquor bottles instead of only one or two on the Bartesian machine. If you like multiple different mixers, then you don’t want to have to keep switching out the bottles, right? One o the total of six slots always has to be for the water bottle, because some cocktails require a splash of water into the mix.
Also, the Bartesian machine requires you to use their generic bottles for your liquor. This means that you need to pour your alcohol in their bottles. That also means that you need to buy multiple of their bottles if you want to be able to exchange liquors easily.
Price was also a factor in our decision, the bev machine has a better price point, especially considering you can connect at least twice as many alcohol bottles. The bev accessories are more affordable as well.
However, the cocktail pods are all Bartesian brand so far, and they have not made generic pods that I know of yet. I have to admit that the pods are not cheap, we tend to buy them when they go on sale.
And speaking of accessories, now that you have your private bartender, you can buy all the fun toys that come with it! We have the salt trim accessory, a nice bar mat to dry your glasses on and the shelf/drawer that the machine sits on.
This shelf comes with a large drawer that gives you a nice overview of your cocktail pods.
